Jillian Michaels Give Me One Reason

by Dave Jackson on May 8, 2010

Jillian Michaels was in the May issue of Women’s Health. In the interview she said the following:

“I’m going to adopt. I can’t handle doing that to my body… Also, when you rescue something, it’s like rescuing a part of yourself.”

She took a lot of comments about it (as it makes her appear vain), and she got some comments about adoption being a “rescue.” Here is what she stated on her facebook page.

There is a misunderstanding circulating in the press on my personal choice to not get pregnant. I think that pregnancy is admirable and selfless. For myself, I have remnant body issues left over from childhood which leads me to make adoption my personal choice down the road.

Remnant body issues? This is the book I would like to read from Jillian. Let us get an inside look at her time growing up. She mentions it briefly in her book Losing by Winning, but not in great detail.

She told access Hollywood “It’s more complicated, way more complicated than that and again, that’s not what I’m here to do today, but I used the word ‘can’t’ and I used the word ‘handle,’” she said. “‘Handle’ is not ‘ruin’ and ‘can’t’ is not ‘won’t.’”

She is also in a video to promote her appearance in Women’s Health.

Our Advice From Jillian

If you didn’t catch episode 15 of the biggest loser, you should. It shows Jillian going to a high school in Texas where an obese teen gets up and explains how her family has told her she will always be fat. To me this is classic Jillian. In some ways the more accurate Jillian than what editors show on the Biggest Loser.  The girl is told she will never be who she wants to be. Jillian asks a great question:

“Give me one reason why you can’t?”

The girls says, “That’s what I’ve always been told, so I learned to believe it.”

The girls says, “I want to be happier,” to which Jillian asks, “What’s stopping you?”. She continued, “Don’t let anybody tell you what you can and can’t do.”

You see her take this girl for some one on one time. The poor girl is picked on at school (so was Jillian). Jillian said, “This is not any sort of destiny you need to accept. The girls replies, “I want to be different.”

Jillian replies, ” tell me why you can’t be?

“When people put us down, its because there is a hole in their heart. They are never going to change – but you can.” Happiness comes with the achievement of little goals, little tiny steps that you achieve every single day. You will have an achievement that will show you a different reality. I’m telling you right now that you have everything that it takes to  achieve anything that you want.  It will not be easy, but it will be worth it.  I expect big things out of you.  It’s gonna be OK, I promise.”
